Brian Mannix is a social studies teacher and Technology Staff Developer at Great Neck South Middle School in New York.  In 2010, he was named Tech & Learning's Educator Leader of the Year and in 2011 named one of the Most Influential People in Public Education in Nassau County thanks in large part to the excellence of his students and his firm reliance on the belief that if you set the bar high, trust and guide, your students will very rarely let you down.  Brian lives each day with the belief inspired by Margaret Mead when she said that "a small group of thoughtful people could change the world. Indeed, it's the only thing that ever has."  Brian believes that by transforming education we can transform the world.  His great, great, great, great, great, great grandfather, Richard Henry Lee proposed the Declaration of Independence before the  Second Continental Congress.  It is time for us to begin the work of igniting our independence from the grips of our antiquated and industrial aged system of schooling.  Please join me in the EdHangout and through The Power of Ten:  Discussing Education's Future, where we can act as that small group of thoughtful people to truly change the world.
